Betaab Valley
Named after the Bollywood film shot here, Betaab Valley is a short drive from Pahalgam town — a wide, green valley with the Lidder River running through it, framed by pine-covered slopes. It's an easy, family-friendly stop, usually combined with Aru and Chandanwari in a single day's outing by local taxi.
Aru Valley
A quieter meadow village about 12 km from Pahalgam, Aru is a good base for short walks and is also a starting point for longer treks (including routes toward Kashmir Great Lakes for more serious trekkers). Even a short visit — a walk along the meadow with mountain views — is worthwhile if you have half a day free.
Chandanwari
Chandanwari marks the traditional start of the Pahalgam route of the Amarnath Yatra trek. Outside the yatra season it's a scenic spot in its own right, often snow-covered even into early summer at the edges, with short walks and pony rides available.
Things to Do in Pahalgam
- Local sightseeing circuit — Betaab Valley, Aru and Chandanwari are typically combined into one day by shared or private taxi from Pahalgam.
- Fishing — the Lidder River is known for trout fishing; permits are required and available locally.
- Golf — Pahalgam has a scenic golf course for casual play.
- Short treks and pony rides — several easy trails suit non-serious trekkers; longer routes (toward Kolahoi Glacier or Kashmir Great Lakes) suit experienced trekkers with proper preparation.
How to Reach Pahalgam
Most visitors travel by pre-booked taxi from Srinagar, roughly 2.5–3 hours depending on the route and stops. Pahalgam is also commonly combined with Srinagar and Gulmarg in a single multi-day Kashmir itinerary, usually visited after Srinagar and before or after Gulmarg depending on route logistics.
Where to Stay
Pahalgam has a wide range of hotels along the Lidder River and in the main town, from budget to upscale. Riverside properties are popular but can be noisier during peak flow season — ask specifically about room location if that matters to you.
