Seven days is a genuinely comfortable length for a first Kashmir trip — long enough to add Sonmarg (and even a quieter offbeat stop like Doodhpathri) to the core circuit, with slack built in for weather delays, slower mornings, or simply not wanting to rush.

Why the Extra Two Days Matter
Compared to a 5-day trip, the extra time does two things: it adds Sonmarg properly instead of skipping it, and it gives you slack. Mountain weather can delay the Gondola, road conditions can add unplanned time to a drive, and having a day of margin means one bad-weather day doesn't wreck the whole trip.
Suggested Pacing by Traveller Type
- Families with young kids: keep Srinagar as a fixed base for Days 3–6 and day-trip to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg rather than changing hotels each night.
- Honeymooners: consider one extra night in Gulmarg or Pahalgam rather than rushing through in a day, and prioritise a well-reviewed houseboat for at least one Srinagar night.
- Photography-focused travellers: build early-morning slots into the Gulmarg and Sonmarg days specifically for light, rather than treating them as pure transit days.
